Winter sports in perfect focus | Sports photographer Mine Kasapoğlu

My name is Mine Kasapoğlu
and I’m a sports photographer I take photos of all kinds of sports but I would
say winter sports is my favourite to shoot because I used to compete
in skiing and snowboarding myself I’ve always had this love for
racing and being on the snow and once I couldn’t really race anymore
I switched to taking photographs of these races I love the feeling at the start
gate of right before the race like where the racers
are getting ready and whilst I photograph those moments in a strange
way I feel the way I used to feel before a race I’ve been using the Sony
α9 for about 2 years now this is a really exciting point in
sports photography in my field especially It seems like it’s completing
the digital revolution When I first saw the specs I was blown
away I was like this can’t be true because it’s lighter instead of
12 frames per second I have 20 instead of focusing just on
the middle part of my image I could focus everywhere on
the frame from corner to corner I can now see exactly what I’m going to
deliver to the client within the viewfinder This also helps when you’re
shooting outside in the snow because everyone needs Loupes
to see what they’re shooting and I just have to look through
my camera to see exactly what I’m doing I love the 400mm 2.8 G Master
it gets you so close to the action and these guys they work so hard
and when you’re so close to it you really feel it, it’s magical The 400 2.8 has an amazing
language in a photo amazing quality and you
can’t replace that ever I shoot a lot of Alpine ski and snowboard
and it’s one of the fastest sports they come down 130km/h and
so it needs to focus fast I used to get maybe 3-4 images in focus
per athlete now I get 8,9,10 more even It’s insane and when I show my
colleagues that are working next to me they’re blown away This is an outdoor sport it’s a nature sport so
we have to be ready for every kind of weather even right now you see
it’s quite windy and cold last year at the Olympics I think it was
like negative 30 degrees it was so cold and my camera was fine In sports we win and lose races by milliseconds
a millisecond can mean the world That moment that I want to portray in an athlete’s face
or it can be emotion or it can be an action moment Now that I have the 20 frames per second
I look through my images and I’m like I would not be able to get this image
if I did not have this many images So it’s not about getting all the 20 I need
that one moment I need that one special moment Photography is about passion
and really wanting that image Follow what makes you move in your heart and
just don’t stop until you have the best image and even if you have the best
image go for the better one it’s a quest for the perfect
image that doesn’t stop and I’m already so happy with the α9
I don’t know how it could be better I’m just really excited for the future I know
Sony is taking imaging to a whole new level and I’m really
happy to be on board
